Mag Spikes
Mag Spikes are an even tougher option for critical point setting and property corner identification than magnails. These survey spikes from ChrisNik, Inc. are made using their proprietary combination of premium steel making them the most durable marker in the industry - like magnails, you pound them harder and find them farther.
The mag survey spike was designed to replace the cotton gin spike (CG spike) - a machined part that was not designed to go into the ground, let alone for use as a surveyor spike. Unlike the CG spike, the size of mag spikes makes them impervious to snowplows. Its directional knurls provide a threading-like action as it's installed that helps hold the marker in the ground. And because the mag spike was specifically made for survey applications, there's no reason to use anything else.
Like mag nails for surveying, the spikes are magnetized for easy detection. Their shank's 3/8" diameter allows for easier driving. Plus, their large center point and 1" diameter head make them ideal for control points and property corners or situations where a survey marker nail isn't robust enough.
